Engineering Manager, Platform Operations & IT

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Platform Operations and IT teams in San Francisco. In this role, you will lead and mentor multiple engineering teams, both on-site and remote, while driving technical excellence and innovation across our infrastructure and platform services.
This is an hybrid onsite role based in our amazing new office in the heart of San Francisco, with regular interaction with remote team members and global data center operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Platform Operations and IT engineering teams responsible for data center operations, developer environments, and Kubernetes infrastructure, and employee IT support
- Manage and maintain existing and new contracts for data centers, hardware warranties, and SaaS platforms
- Drive collaboration with Developer Experience teams to support GitHub runners and developer environments
- Oversee the support and maintenance of bare-metal Kubernetes clusters and self-service cluster creation capabilities
- Monitor and analyze data center capacity to ensure optimal resource allocation and performance
- Manage an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 platform availability and incident response
- Support a global network of data centers providing services for the Internet Computer and DFINITY infrastructure
- Provide project management for Platform Operations Engineers via Jira
- Drive hiring initiatives and organizational scaling efforts for the Platform Operations organization
- Define clear performance metrics, provide regular constructive feedback, and support career development opportunities
- Create and maintain a collaborative, inclusive team culture across both local and remote operations teams
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to align platform operations with business objectives
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of infrastructure or platform engineering experience, with 4+ years in engineering leadership roles
- Experience managing data center operations, infrastructure contracts, and SaaS platform integrations
- Proven track record of successfully scaling operations and infrastructure teams
- Experience leading both on-site and remote engineering teams across multiple time zones
- Strong technical background with deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, and platform services
- Demonstrated success in managing mission-critical infrastructure and technical operations
- Excellence in people management, including performance evaluation and professional development
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to influence across all levels of the organization
- Experience in technical roadmap development and strategic planning for platform operations
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distributed systems and infrastructure at scale
- Track record of successful hiring and team building in competitive markets
- Experience managing on-call rotations and incident response processes
- Kubernetes administration and cluster management expertise
- Data center capacity planning and optimization experience
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Previous experience in fast-paced, high-growth technology companies
- Experience managing team leads and engineering managers
Base Salary Range: $190,000 - $260,000/yr
This position can be considered across multiple levels. Total compensation at DFINITY consists of base salary + generous bonus and is determined based on multiple factors including job leveling, areas of expertise, educational background, geographic location and overall experience.
